Notes From Venus is a haven for my internal dialogues, Libra conflicts, and life as a melanic force on the journey to love. In the midst of an individualist society and inspired by my ruling planet and the Goddess of Love, Venus, I aim to covet the confounding notion that we…… need each other. This is also a nod to Venus Noire, Sarah Baartman, whose sexuality and female embodiment was misled to ridicule the figure of the African woman and to muddle black sexuality. Society often supports the notion that African American social, sexual, and romantic relationships are haphazard, sexually irresponsible, unhealthy, and void of intellect or intimacy.
I challenge that.
Now I may have faith to make mountains fall
But if I lack love then I am nothin’ at all
I can give away everything I possess
But left without love then I have no happiness
I know I’m imperfect [I know I’m imperfect]
& not without sin [& not without sin]
But now that I’m older all childish things end… [Lauryn Hill]
These are life and love notes from me to you. Enjoy.
